#308: Achievements Standards + Task Elaborations (includes templates)

If you have worked your way through this section around planning, you should have clarity around the effectiveness of starting your planning with the end assessment, as the focus. This may feel a little out of order HOWEVER, I wanted to add an extra module here to help grow your understanding around "standard elaborations and achievements standards:" (including templates) to support you in your planning. Knowing where your students are going (the outcome) and the assessment type provides you with the structure for your planning.

The templates are editable and is also available in a slightly different version in the Assessment + Reporting section with examples that you can look at, download and research further. It is a powerful planning strategy to have your assessment tasks at least in draft form prior to planning, so you are teaching your students effectively... which is why I wanted to pop this training in here!

According to the ACARA website:

"An achievement standard describes the quality of learning (the depth of understanding, extent of knowledge and sophistication of skill) typically expected of students as they progress through schooling. An achievement standard comprises a written description with illustrative student work samples.
The sequence of achievement standards across the Foundation to Year 10 Australian Curriculum describes and illustrates progress in the learning area. This assists teachers to plan for and monitor learning and to make judgements about the extent and quality of learning. The achievement standards can support formative and summative assessment practices and provide a basis for consistency of assessment and reporting.
Work samples play a key role in establishing and communicating expectations described in the achievement standards. The examples of student work include the task and a student’s response, with annotations about the quality of learning evident in that response in relation to relevant parts of the achievement standard. "

Do not put pressure on yourself to nail this immediately!!! Each school you will work at will have a different set up for standard elaborations when it comes to grading. It can feel like there is little consistency.

Mrs Strawberry on tpt has some that she sells for each subject and each grade that will save you hours of time!!!!!

I wish someone taught me this a lot earlier in my career which is why I want you to find this now in your career!!!

When you plan towards a goal and the goal is clear (for you and the students), the learning journey you plan and take with your students, will be effective using this framework!

When you are ready to start creating your elaborations or view samples to get a better understanding, jump to the "assessment and reporting" section of the program and access the modules you want!

PS - this is why I designed the program to be open and flexible for all members and your own specific journey.

Enjoy the training below!
